Alfonso Ribeiro

Alfonso Ribeiro is an actor, television host and director best known for playing Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos. Born in the Bronx, New York, Ribeiro began performing at a young age.

Ribeiro’s career began in theater at age 8 when he starred in the Broadway musical The Tap Dance Kid. He gained early fame in a 1984 Pepsi commercial with Michael Jackson and later joined the cast of Silver Spoons. In 1990, he was cast as Carlton Banks, cousin of Will Smith’s character, on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, a role that made him a household name.

After Fresh Prince ended in 1996, Ribeiro appeared on various television shows and directed episodes of All of Us, Are We There Yet? and Young and Hungry. In 2014, he competed on season 19 of Dancing With the Stars with partner Witney Carson, where he brought home the mirrorball trophy. He began hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos in 2015 and joined Dancing With the Stars as cohost in 2022.

Ribeiro was previously wed to Robin Stapler, with whom he shares a daughter, Sienna (born in 2002). The two divorced in 2006. He later married Angela Unkrich in October 2012. The couple share children Alfonso Jr. (born in 2013), Anders Reyn (born in 2015) and Ava Sue (born in 2019).
