Anna Wintour

Anna Wintour entered the fashion industry world in 1970 when she was hired as an editorial assistant at Harper’s & Queen. In 1975, she moved to New York City to take over as junior fashion editor at Harper’s Bazaar and later held positions with New York Magazine, British Vogue and House & Garden. Wintour has been editor-in-chief of Vogue since 1988, overseeing spinoffs Men’s Vogue, Vogue Living and Teen Vogue. She assumed the position of artistic director for Condé Nast in 2013. Wintour stepped down from her post as Vogue editor-in-chief in 2025.

Wintour’s former personal assistant, Lauren Weisberger, published the 2003 novel The Devil Wears Prada reportedly inspired by working with the editor. It was adapted into the 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. Wintour also appeared in the 2009 documentary The September Issue.

Wintour was previously married to child psychiatrist David Shaffer from 1984 to 1999. They welcomed son Charles and daughter Bee in 1985 and 1987, respectively. Wintour moved on with investor Shelby Bryan in 2004, but the two split in 2020.
