Bobby Cannavale

Bobby Cannavale is an Emmy-winning actor known for his standout roles on television and the big screen, including Boardwalk Empire and Nurse Jackie. Cannavale was born and raised in Union City, New Jersey, by his Cuban mother after his parents divorced. He was involved in school productions from an early age and, after moving to Florida, he attended Coconut Creek High School, where he appeared in multiple plays. After being expelled, he moved to New Jersey, earning his high school diploma via summer school while focusing on pursuing acting full time.

Cannavale landed early on screen roles in films including Night Falls on Manhattan (1996) and I’m Not Rappaport (1996). In 1999, landed his breakout role as FDNY Paramedic Roberto “Bobby” Caffey on Third Watch. He went on to appear in Will & Grace, earning his first Primetime Emmy Award in 2005 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. He later won a second Emmy in 2013 for his role as Gyp Rosetti on Boardwalk Empire. His extensive résumé also expands into film, with appearances in movies like Blue Jasmine (2013), Annie (2014), Ezra (2023) and Trap House (2025) raising his public profile.

Cannavale was married to screenwriter and actress Jenny Lumet from 1994 to 2003. The former couple share a son, Jake (born in 1995). He later began dating Rose Byrne, and they share two sons: Rocco (born in 2016) and Rafa (born in 2017).
