
Rose Byrne
Rose Byrne is an Australian actress known for her leading performances in comedies and action franchises. Byrne was born in Balmain, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. Byrne attended the University of Sydney, where she studied the arts, launching a professional acting career shortly after.
Byrne began working steadily in Australian film and television with early roles in Two Hands (1999) helping bring her wider attention. She transitioned to Hollywood in the early 2000s, appearing in projects such as Troy (2004) and 28 Weeks Later (2007). Her major breakthrough came when she starred opposite Glenn Close on the legal drama Damages, earning two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress – Series for her performance.
Byrne’s later projects include Insidious (2010), Bridesmaids (2011), Annie (2014), X-Men: First Class (2011), Spy (2015) and Juliet, Naked (2018). On television, she has starred in shows like Physical and Platonic. She is also known for voice work in projects like Bluey, American Dad! and I Am Mother (2019). In 2025, she led Mary Bronstein’s film If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
Byrne was previously in a relationship with Brendan Cowell until 2010. She later entered a long-term relationship with actor Bobby Cannavale in 2012. The couple share two sons, Rocco (born in 2016) and Rafa (born in 2017).
