Chris Meloni

Christopher Meloni is an actor known for his role as Law & Order: SVU’s Detective Elliot Stabler. Meloni attended the University of Colorado, originally majoring in acting but ultimately receiving a degree in history in 1983. As he went on to establish his career, Meloni performed in regional theater productions of A View From the Bridge and Rainmaker.

His Hollywood breakthrough was in 1989 on the TV series 1st & Ten. Meloni went on to be featured in five episodes of NYPD Blue in 1996. He landed the Law & Order gig in 1999, earning an Emmy nomination in 2006, and remained on the series until his 2011 exit. He returned to the hit series a decade later and starred in his own spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime, which debuted in 2021.

After, Meloni left his detective role in Law & Order, he continued to be a presence on both the big and small screens. He wrote and directed Dirty Movie in 2011, which reunited Meloni with Law & Order: SVU costar Diane Neal. He appeared in various award-winning TV shows, including Oz, The Handmaid’s Tale, Pose, Veep and True Blood. His films include Man of Steel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Snatched.

Meloni is married to production designer Doris Sherman Williams, with whom he has two children, Sophia (born March 2001) and Dant (born January 2004).
