
Joel Edgerton
Joel Edgerton is an Australian actor, writer and director known for his work in both blockbuster films and critically acclaimed dramas. Edgerton was born in New South Wales, and was raised alongside his younger brother, actor Nash Edgerton. He studied drama at the Nepean Drama School at the University of Western Sydney, where he trained in acting before entering the Australian film and television industry.
He began his career with stage work and early screen roles in Australia, appearing in series including The Secret Life of Us. His international breakthrough came in 2005 with his performance as Owen Lars in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), a role he reprised in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005). From there, Edgerton steadily built a reputation in Hollywood with a mix of supporting and leading roles.
Edgerton starred in notable films such as Warrior (2011), Zero Dark Thirty (2012), The Great Gatsby (2013) and Loving (2016), for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture. He also appeared in The Gift (2015), which marked his directorial debut, and later wrote, directed and starred in Boy Erased.
Edgerton married fashion editor Christine Centenera in 2023 after several years of dating. They welcomed twin girls in 2021.
