Kyra Sedgwick

Kyra Sedgwick is an actress, producer and director best known for her starring role as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on The Closer, which earned her a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award. Sedgwick was born and raised in New York City and attended Friends Seminary, later earning a degree in theater from the University of Southern California.

Sedgwick began acting professionally at age 16 with a role on the soap opera Another World. She gained attention with her performance in the 1985 TV film Lemon Sky and made her film debut in War and Love (1985). Her career continued with supporting roles in Born on the Fourth of July (1989), Singles (1992) and Phenomenon (1996).

Her biggest success came in 2005 with The Closer, which ran for seven seasons and brought her critical acclaim and numerous awards. She has also appeared in The Woodsman (2004), The Edge of Seventeen (2016) and The Summer I Turned Pretty. She made her directorial debut in 2017 with the film Story of a Girl.

Sedgwick married actor Kevin Bacon in 1988 after meeting on the set of Lemon Sky. They share children Travis (born in 1989) and Sosie (born in 1992), with whom they’ve collaborated with over the years.
