Mariska Hargitay is best known for playing Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe in 2005 and an Emmy Award in 2006. Hargitay coproduced the HBO documentary I Am Evidence, which won the News & Documentary Emmy Award for Best Documentary in 2017. Aside from acting, Hargitay founded the Joyful Heart Foundation in 2004, which works to provide support for victims of sexual abuse.

Hargitay married Law & Order costar Peter Hermann in 2004. The couple welcomed son August in June 2006 and adopted daughter Amaya in April 2011. In October of that year, they adopted son Andrew.
