Born in Brazil, Morena Baccarin moved to the U.S. as a child, attending school in New York City alongside future Homeland costar Claire Danes.

After graduating from The Juilliard School in 2000, she landed her first TV role as Inara Serra on Firefly, a one-season sci-fi show that developed a cult following. She reprised the role in the 2005 film Serenity. Baccarin went on to star in many more genre TV series, including V, Stargate SG-1 and Gotham, and films, including Elevation and Marvel’s Deadpool franchise.

Baccarin has also starred in TV dramas, including Homeland (for which she received a 2013 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series) and the 2025 Fire Country spinoff, Sheriff Country.

The actress is a mother of three. She gave birth son Julius in 2013 with Austin Chick, to whom she was married from 2011 to 2016. She and husband Benjamin McKenzie welcomed daughter Frances in March 2016. Baccarin and McKenzie married in June 2017 and expanded their family when son Arthur was born in 2021.
