Paul Bettany

Paul Bettany is an Emmy-nominated actor best known for his role as Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Raised in England, Bettany was first exposed to performing arts through his parents, who were both involved in theater. Bettany received a classical education in acting from the Drama Centre London and made a multitude of appearances with different theater companies before making his screen debut.

He made his TV debut in the British crime drama Wycliffe in 1994. Bettany went on to make multiple television appearances before landing a lead role in the highly acclaimed British gangster film Gangster No. 1. Some of his notable films include A Beautiful Mind (2001) and The Da Vinci Code (2006). His first Marvel role came in 2008 when he lent his voice to Iron Man as J.A.R.V.I.S. Bettany quickly found a home with the Marvel franchise, reprising his role in Iron Man 2 and 3.

In 2015, he was reintroduced to the franchise as Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Alongside Elizabeth Olsen, he reprised the role in the Emmy-winning series WandaVision. The show won three Emmys and earned Bettany an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series.

Bettany met actress Jennifer Connelly in 2001 while filming A Beautiful Mind. The two wed the following year and welcomed their son, Stellan, in 2003. Their daughter, Agnes, was born in 2011. Bettany is also a stepfather to Connelly’s son from a previous relationship.
