
Ray Romano
Ray Romano’s comedy career took off in 1987 when he won a standup competition hosted by a New York City radio station. Initially pursuing accounting at Queens College, he discovered his passion for comedy while performing standup sets in local clubs. His national breakthrough came after appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Late Night with David Letterman.
In 1996, Romano secured his iconic role as Ray Barone on the CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, a show loosely based on his life. The series ran for nine seasons, earning him widespread acclaim and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2002. He later starred in other TV series including Men of a Certain Age and Parenthood.
He also ventured into films, notably voicing Manny the wooly mammoth in the Ice Age franchise, and appearing in The Big Sick, Bad Education and The Irishman. Throughout his career, Romano has been nominated for 16 Emmys, winning three, and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The actor made his directorial debut with the 2023 movie Somewhere In Queens.
Romano has been married to Anna Scarpulla since 1987, together they share four children: Alexandra (born March 1990), twins Matthew and Gregory (born January 1993) and Joseph (born February 1998).
