Rider Strong is an American actor, director and writer best known for his role as Shawn Hunter on Boy Meets World. Rider was born in San Francisco, where he was raised with older brother Shiloh Strong. He graduated high school in 1998 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in English from Columbia University in 2004. He earned an MFA in fiction and literature from Bennington College in 2009.

Rider began acting on stage at age 10, playing Gavroche in a San Francisco production of Les Misérables and later appearing in early television roles. In 1992, he landed the role of Adam McGuire on the short-lived ABC sitcom Julie. His big breakthrough came when he was cast as Shawn Hunter on the ABC sitcom Boy Meets World from 1993 to 2000, making him a familiar face to a generation of TV viewers.

In 2002, he starred in the cult horror film Cabin Fever (2002), and some of his later big screen projects include its 2009 sequel and Too Late (2015). He has done extensive voice work for shows such as Kim Possible and Star vs. the Forces of Evil. He reprised his role as Shawn on Girl Meets World from 2014 to 2017. Outside of acting, Rider has ventured into directing alongside Shiloh, and the two helmed the short film Irish Twins 2008.

Strong met actress Alexandra Barreto while working on the series Pepper Dennis in 2006. They became engaged in 2012 and married the following year. The couple welcomed a son, Indigo “Indy” Barreto Strong, in 2014.
