Rosemarie DeWitt is an actress best known for her roles in Standoff, La La Land (2016) and Poltergeist (2015). DeWitt spent her childhood in New York before attending Hofstra University. She went on to pursue acting shortly after graduating, enrolling in The Actor Center in New York City.

DeWitt’s first Hollywood endeavors consisted largely of minor TV and film roles, including an appearance on Sex and the City. She went on to appear in projects such as Cinderella Man (2005) and Rescue Me before landing her first recurring role as Emily Lehman in the Emmy-nominated crime drama Standoff. Her first film lead came shortly after the show’s end in 2007 when she starred as the titular role in Rachel Getting Married (2008).

The actress has featured in films such as Men, Women & Children (2014) and Kill the Messenger (2014) and has landed recurring roles in shows like The United States of Tara and The Last Tycoon. In 2016, she acted alongside Ryan Gosling in the Oscar-winning film La La Land as Laura. From 2022 to 2023, she voiced Ellen in the AMC+ animation Pantheon, and in 2025, she starred in the comedy Ramona at Midlife.

DeWitt was wed to actor Chris Messina from 1995 to 2006. She tied the knot with Standoff costar Ron Livingston in 2009, and the couple have adopted two children: daughter Gracie James (born in 2013) and daughter Esperanza Mae (born in 2015).
