Sam Rockwell

Sam Rockwell is an Academy Award-winning screen and stage actor. Rockwell was raised in San Francisco and New York City. His parents, both actors, separated when he was young. He attended San Francisco School of the Arts but did not graduate, later moving to New York to pursue acting, studying at the William Esper Studio.

Rockwell started his career with small roles in independent films and television, making his debut in Clownhouse in 1989. He went on to make guest appearances on shows such as Law & Order and NYPD Blue. His breakout came with his appearances in Box of Moonlight (1996) and Lawn Dogs (1997), followed by supporting roles in The Green Mile (1999) and Galaxy Quest (1999). He gained further recognition starring in George Clooney’s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), in which his role as Chuck Barris earned him critical praise.

He later starred in films like Moon (2009), Seven Psychopaths (2012) and Richard Jewell (2019). He was awarded an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) and earned another nomination for Jojo Rabbit (2019).

In 2025, he made a cameo on HBO’s hit series The White Lotus.

The Oscar winner has also worked extensively in theater, including acting in the Tony-nominated play American Buffalo.

Rockwell has been in a long-term relationship with actress Leslie Bibb since 2007.
