About

Actress Sutton Foster began her Broadway career as an understudy for Eponine in Les Misérables in 2000. She left the show to play the titular role in the Thoroughly Modern Millie revival, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. She later earned Tony nominations for Little Women (2005), The Drowsy Chaperone (2006) and Shrek the Musical (2009). She won her second Tony in 2011 for her role as Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes. Foster returned to Broadway in 2021 alongside Hugh Jackman in a revival of The Music Man, for which she received her seventh Tony nod.

Foster made the transition to the small screen in 2012’s Bunheads, a short-lived dramedy from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. She later had a small role in Netflix’s 2016 revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Her longest television role was on TV Land’s Younger, on which she starred for seven seasons as a 40-something who poses as a 20-something in order to re-enter the workforce.

Outside of acting, Foster released her debut solo album, Wish, in February 2009. She went on to publish a memoir about her love of crafting, Hooked, in October 2021.

Foster married fellow Broadway star Christian Borle in September 2006. They divorced three years later, but went on to work together on Gilmore Girls and Younger. She later married Tim Griffin in 2015 and the pair adopted a daughter, Emily, who was born in 2017. Foster filed for divorce in October 2024.
