About

Taylor Sheridan (born Sheridan Taylor Gibler Jr.) is an Oscar-nominated writer and producer best known for creating the western TV drama Yellowstone. The actor was raised on a ranch in Cranfills Gap, Texas, which is where he gained much of his inspiration for his work. He had a short stint at Texas State University before dropping out and was discovered by a talent scout soon after, which spurred his decision to move to Chicago.

Sheridan picked up a handful of small TV and film roles in his early career, most notably in the FX series Sons of Anarchy as David Hale. He decided to make the transition to screenwriting after turning 40 and went on to write the crime film Sicario (2015) starring Emily Blunt. The film earned him his first Writers Guild of America nomination for Best Screenplay.

The screenwriter went on to write the 2016 western thriller Hell or High Water, which received four Oscar nominations total, including Best Picture. In 2017, he created his Emmy-nominated series Yellowstone, starring Kevin Costner, and the show ran until 2024. Spinoffs of the show include 1883 and 1923. Some of his other notable works include The Last Cowboy and Mayor of Kingstown.

Following the success of Yellowstone, Sheridan wrote the Paramount+ drama Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton, in 2024.

The Yellowstone creator welcomed his son, Gus, with actress Nicole Muirbrook in 2010; the pair wed in 2013.
