About

Tony Goldwyn is an actor, director and producer best known for playing President Fitzgerald Grant on Scandal and for his role in the film Ghost. Tony was born in Los Angeles, California, as part of a Hollywood family — his father was producer Samuel Goldwyn Jr. and his grandfather was studio mogul Samuel Goldwyn. He attended Hamilton College and Brandeis University, then trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the HB Studio in New York.

Tony began his career with small roles in television and film in the late 1980s. He gained widespread attention in 1990 when he starred opposite Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore as the villain Carl Bruner in Ghost (1990). His early work also included appearances on Designing Women, Matlock and From the Earth to the Moon.

He later built a diverse film and TV resume, including roles in The Pelican Brief (1993), Nixon (1995), The Last Samurai (2003) and voicing Tarzan in Disney’s Tarzan (1999). From 2012 to 2018, he starred on ABC’s Scandal, which earned him critical acclaim. Tony has also directed episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, Dexter, Scandal and The L Word. His later projects include King Richard (2021), Oppenheimer (2023), and the Netflix series Chambers.

Tony has been married to production designer Jane Musky since 1987. They have two daughters, Anna (born in 1990) and Tess (born in 1995).
