About

Alan Cumming is a Scottish actor and writer.

Following his big break on the West End and Broadway, Cumming has starred in many films across every genre, from action movies like the James Bond film GoldenEye (1995) and Spy Kids (2001) to comedies like Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion (1997) and Josie and the Pussycats (2001). He also appeared in superhero movie X2: X-Men United (2003), musical Burlesque (2010) and sports biopic Battle of the Sexes (2017).

The Broadway star won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical after starring as Emcee in Cabaret, and he was nominated for both Golden Globes and Emmys for his role on hit TV show The Good Wife. However, it was his gig hosting reality series The Traitors that earned him his first Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program.

In addition to his acting and singing, Cumming is also a published author. His memoir, titled Not My Father’s Son, was published in 2014. He also penned the children’s book The Adventures of Honey & Leon in 2016 and Honey & Leon Take the High Road in 2019, both of which were illustrated by his husband, Grant Shaffer.

Cumming was married to actress Hilary Lyon from 1986 to 1994. He publicly came out as bisexual in 1998. He married Shaffer in a 2007 London civil ceremony after two years of dating. They tied the knot again in New York five years later after the U.S. legalized same-sex marriage.
