Anne Heche
Anne Heche was an Emmy-nominated actress and director. Heche moved around often as a child and, after relocating to New Jersey, landed her first acting gig at a dinner theater. She continued acting throughout high school, participating in numerous theater productions. Heche landed her first big role in 1987 on the soap opera Another World and moved to New York City just days after her high school graduation for the role.
The actress remained a member of the cast until 1991 and won the Daytime Emmy award for her role on the show. She landed her first film role as Marie in O Pioneers! the following year. Heche’s breakout role came in 1997 when she starred alongside Johnny Depp as Maggie in the Oscar-nominated crime drama Donnie Brasco. She went on to make appearances in projects such as Volcano (1997) and Six Days, Seven Nights (1998).
In the late ‘90s, Heche ventured into directing, obtaining credits on various short films and screenplays. The actress also made appearances on Broadway, making her debut in the 2002 production Proof. Some of her later works include My Friend Dahmer (2017) and a brief stint on TV drama Chicago P.D.
In 1997, Heche met comedian Ellen DeGeneres, and the two were in a relationship until 2000. She married cameraman Coleman “Coley” Laffoon the following year. Heche gave birth to their son, Homer, in 2002, and the couple finalized their divorce in 2009. She began dating Men in Trees co-star James Tupper in 2009, and their son, Atlas, was born the same year. The pair split in 2018.
In August 2022, Heche was involved in a car crash from which she sustained multiple life-threatening injuries. She died from the sustained injuries six days after the accident.
