Chad Kroeger

Chad Kroeger (born Chad Robert Turton) is a Canadian musician best known as the lead singer and guitarist of the rock band Nickelback. Chad grew up in a small farming community in Alberta, Canada, and taught himself to play guitar at 13. After graduating high school, he toured with a cover band alongside his older half-brother Mike Kroeger and longtime friend Ryan Peake, who would later become Nickelback bandmates.

Chad and his bandmates formed Nickelback in the 1990s. The group independently released Curb in 1996 before following it with The State in 2000. Nickelback broke into the mainstream with 2001’s Silver Side Up, which featured the hit “How You Remind Me.” The song established Chad as one of the most recognizable frontmen in early-2000s rock.

Chad has also written and performed outside Nickelback, including the song “Hero” for the Spider-Man (2002) soundtrack with Josey Scott. He has received multiple Grammy nominations, including the nomination for Best Rock Album for Nickelback’s The Long Road (2004).

Chad began dating Avril Lavigne in 2012 after they worked together on music. They became engaged that August and married in France in 2013. Lavigne announced their separation in 2015 after two years of marriage.
