Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder (born Stevland Hardaway Judkins) is a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is one of the most awarded artists in music history and a key figure in Motown’s legacy. Wonder became blind shortly after birth due to a condition called retinopathy of prematurity. Raised in Detroit, he showed early musical talent, teaching himself multiple instruments.
Signed to Motown’s Tamla label at age 11, he was billed as “Little Stevie Wonder” and released his first hit, “Fingertips,” at 13. His early success was followed by a steady stream of hits throughout the 1960s and 1970s. In the 1970s, he gained creative control of his music and released critically acclaimed albums such as Talking Book (1972), Innervisions (1973) and Songs in the Key of Life (1976).
Wonder has won over 20 Grammy Awards, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, which he was awarded in 1996. His later discography includes Hotter Than July (1980), Characters (1987) and A Time to Love (2005). He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014.
Wonder has been married three times. From 1970 to 1972, he was wed to songwriter Syreeta Wright. He later moved on with fashion designer Kai Millard Morris from 2001 to 2012. In 2017, he tied the knot with Tomeeka Robyn Bracy. He has welcomed nine children from five different relationships over the years, including singer Aisha Morris.
