
Charlie Day
Charlie Day (born Charles Peckham Day) is an actor, writer and producer best known for playing Charlie Kelly on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and starring in comedies like Horrible Bosses (2011) and Fist Fight (2017). Day was raised in Middletown, Rhode Island, and graduated from Merrimack College in Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in art history. While in college, he participated in theater productions and later went on to train at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Day began his acting career with small roles on shows like Law & Order and Third Watch before co-creating and starring on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia in 2005 with Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton. The series became one of the longest-running live-action sitcoms in TV history and launched Day’s career in Hollywood.
He later starred in hit films such as Pacific Rim (2013), How It Ends (2021) and Fool’s Paradise (2023), which served as his feature directorial debut. He has also lent his voice to productions like Monsters University (2013), The Lego Movie (2014) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023).
The actor has also served as an executive producer on shows like The Cool Kids and Mythic Quest.
Day married actress Mary Elizabeth Ellis in 2006. The couple met while performing together and costarred on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. They welcomed son Russell Wallace Day in 2011.
