
Charlie Hunnam
Charlie Hunnam is an actor best known for his role as Jax Teller on the FX series Sons of Anarchy. He was born in Newcastle, England and raised in the nearby town of Melmerby. After being expelled from school, he completed his exams through home study. Hunnam later attended Cumbria College of Art and Design, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in film theory and history with a focus on performing arts.
Hunnam was discovered at age 17 and landed his first acting role as Nathan Maloney on the British series Queer as Folk in 1999. He later relocated to Los Angeles and appeared in various television projects including Young Americans and Undeclared. His breakthrough came in 2008 when he was cast in Sons of Anarchy, which ran for seven seasons and earned him international recognition.
His film credits include Pacific Rim (2013), Crimson Peak (2015), The Lost City of Z (2016), King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017) and The Gentlemen (2019). Hunnam received a CinemaCon Award in 2017 for Male Star of the Year and has been nominated for multiple Critics’ Choice Awards throughout his career. In 2022, he joined the cast of Apple TV+’s Shantaram.
In 2025, Hunnam was announced as a cast member of Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology on Netflix.
Hunnam married actress Katharine Towne in 1999 after meeting during auditions for Dawson’s Creek. They divorced in 2002. He has been in a long-term relationship with artist Morgana McNelis since 2005.
