About

Courtney Love is a musician and actress and the frontwoman of the rock band Hole. Love spent much of her childhood moving around and briefly lived in New Zealand before moving to Portland, Oregon. After turning 18, she worked multiple part time jobs to support herself. She later studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, where she took acting classes before beginning to audition for short films.

Love began her career in the early 1980s with appearances in underground films and brief stints in bands before forming Hole in 1989. The band’s 1991 debut Pretty on the Inside gained a cult following, and their breakthrough came in 1994 with Live Through This. This was followed by Celebrity Skin (1998), which experienced commercial success and received two Grammy nominations for Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal and Best Rock Album.

The singer made her return to acting in 1996 and went on to give a Golden Globe nominated performance in The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996). Some of her other notable appearances include Man on the Moon (1999), Trapped (2002) and recurring TV roles on Empire and Sons of Anarchy.

The singer was wed to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain from 1992 until his death in 1994. The couple had one child, daughter Frances Bean Cobain (born in 1992).
