Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar is a Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper and songwriter known for his socially conscious lyrics, conceptual albums and lasting impact on hip-hop. Lamar was born in Compton, California and raised in the city during the height of West Coast gang culture, an experience that would later shape his music. He attended Centennial High School in Compton, where he graduated as a straight-A student and began to take an interest in music, later choosing to pursue it full time.
Lamar released his first mixtape, Youngest Head N***a in Charge, in 2004 under the name K.Dot, which helped him build local buzz. After several independent projects, he broke through with Section.80 in 2011. His major-label debut, Good kid, m.A.A.d city, arrived in 2012 and was widely acclaimed, establishing him as one of hip-hop’s leading voices and earning multiple Grammy nominations.
Over the years, the Grammy-winner has produced albums such as To Pimp a Butterfly (2015), DAMN. (2017) and Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (2022) and boasts hits like “Alright,” “HUMBLE.” and “Not Like Us.” In 2018, he became the first rapper to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music, solidifying his ability to blend personal narrative with political commentary. Throughout his career, he has won 22 Grammy Awards and has been widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of all time.
Lamar got engaged to high school sweetheart Whitney Alford in 2015. The couple share two children, daughter Uzi (born in 2019) and son Enoch (born in 2022).
