Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey is an American actor and producer known for his film and television work, including The Usual Suspects, American Beauty and House of Cards. Spacey spent his childhood in Southern California, where he first fostered an interest in theater. After graduating, he enrolled in the Juilliard School’s drama program and studied there from 1979 to 1981 before beginning professional stage work.

Spacey started his career on Broadway, appearing in productions such as Ghosts (1982) and Long Day’s Journey Into Night (1986). In 1991, he was awarded his first Tony for his portrayal of Uncle Louie in Lost in Yonkers.

After landing early onscreen roles in movies like Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) and Iron Will (1994), he rose to prominence for his role in The Usual Suspects in 1995. His performance earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, followed by a second win for Best Actor for 1999’s American Beauty.

His notable work includes films such as Se7en (1995), L.A. Confidential (1997), Pay It Forward (2000) and Superman Returns (2006). On television, he starred as Frank Underwood in House of Cards, a role that earned him Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards. He remained on the show until 2017 following allegations of sexual misconduct. He denied all allegations.

Outside of acting, Spacey served as artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004 to 2015.

Spacey was romantically involved with April Winchell and Dianne Dreyer in the late ’80s and ’90s before coming out as gay in 2017.
