Liza Minnelli

Liza Minnelli is an Academy Award-winning actress and singer best known for her role in Cabaret and for her decades-long career on Broadway, in film and as a concert performer. Liza is the daughter of legendary entertainer Judy Garland and film director Vincente Minnelli. She grew up surrounded by Hollywood and the entertainment industry, appearing as a toddler in the 1949 film In the Good Old Summertime. She later moved to New York City and attended the High School of Performing Arts, where she focused on musical theater as she prepared to follow in her mother’s footsteps as an actress.

Liza began performing professionally as a teenager and made her Off-Broadway debut in Best Foot Forward in 1963. Her breakout came two years later when she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for Flora the Red Menace (1965). She went on to become a major star on stage and screen, earning the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Sally Bowles in the 1972 film Cabaret. Her career also includes roles in films such as New York, New York (1977), Arthur (1981) and Rent-a-Cop (1987). In 2003, she landed a recurring role on Arrested Development as Lucille Austero.

Liza has been married four times. She wed singer-songwriter Peter Allen in 1967 before their divorce in 1974. She later married producer Jack Haley Jr. from 1974 to 1979 and sculptor Mark Gero from 1979 to 1992. In 2002, she tied the knot with concert promoter David Gest, and the couple split the following year, finalizing their divorce in 2007.
