About

Actress and singer Mae Whitman is the daughter of the voice artist Pat Musick and personal manager Jeffrey Whitman. Mae entered the entertainment industry at a young age doing voiceover work for a Tyson Chicken commercial.

Her early exposure led to her feature film debut at the age of 5 in When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). She played the president’s daughter in 1996’s Independence Day and landed one of the leading roles on the TV show State of Grace in 2001 alongside Alia Shawkat.

Her success carried into adulthood, and Whitman has portrayed many roles in film, television and voice acting, from dramatic films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower to romantic comedies like The DUFF. She has also been a series regular on many memorable TV shows, such as Good Girls, Arrested Development, Parenthood and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

In August 2021, Whitman publicly came out as pansexual and in May 2024. Whitman announced her pregnancy with her first child, a son named Miles (born August 2024 and named after Parenthood costar Miles Heizer).

Whitman was previously in a four-year relationship with singer-songwriter Landon Pigg. She also briefly dated actor Dov Tiefenbach in 2008.
