Theo James

Theo James (born Theodore Peter James Kinnaird Taptiklis) is an Emmy-nominated actor best known for his role as Four in the Divergent film series and his performance in The White Lotus. James attended Aylesbury Grammar School in England before studying philosophy at the University of Nottingham. He later trained in acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

James made his television debut in A Passionate Woman in 2010 and gained attention for his brief role in Downton Abbey. He went on to appear on shows such as Case Sensitive and Room at the Top. His breakout moment came in 2014 when he starred as Tobias “Four” Eaton in Divergent, based on the bestselling book series. He reprised the role in Insurgent (2015) and Allegiant (2016).

Beyond Divergent, James has starred in The Secret Scripture (2016), How It Ends (2018) and Archive (2020). In 2022, he was cast as Cameron Sullivan in season 2 of The White Lotus, earning widespread recognition. He has also done voice work for shows such as Castlevania and X-Men ‘97.

In 2025, he played the leading role in the dark comedy The Monkey.
James married actress Ruth Kearney in 2018 after meeting in acting school. The couple welcomed their first child in 2021 and their second in 2023.
