About

Thomas Rhett (born Thomas Rhett Akins Jr.) is a Grammy-nominated country music singer and songwriter. He was born in Valdosta, Georgia, to Paige Braswell and country singer Rhett Akins. Rhett grew up surrounded by the music industry and learned to play drums in junior high. He attended Lipscomb University in Nashville but left before graduating to pursue a career in music.

Rhett began his professional career writing tracks for artists including Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line and Lee Brice. He signed with Big Machine Records’ Valory imprint and released his debut album, It Goes Like This, in 2013. His third studio album, Life Changes (2017), debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making him the first country act to achieve that feat that year. He has since released multiple chart-topping albums, including Center Point Road (2019), Country Again: Side A (2021) and About a Woman (2024).

Rhett has earned several awards, including ACM Male Artist of the Year, a BMI Country Award for Songwriter of the Year and multiple CMA Awards. He is also a five-time Grammy nominee, having scored two nominations for Best Country Album.

Rhett married his childhood sweetheart Lauren Akins in 2012. The couple share four daughters: Willa Gray (born in 2015 and adopted from Uganda in 2017), Ada James (born in 2017), Lennon Love (born in 2020) and Lillie Carolina (born in 2021). In 2025, the twosome announced they were expecting their fifth baby. Son Brave completed the family in February 2026.
