Bellamy Young is an actress best known for playing Mellie Grant on ABC’s Scandal. Young was adopted and raised in Buncombe County, North Carolina. She graduated from Asheville High School before studying at Yale University, where she majored in English and theatre. She also spent time studying at Oxford University through a summer program.

Young began her career on stage and transitioned to television with guest roles on shows like Law & Order, ER and NCIS. She appeared in several recurring roles on CSI: Miami, Dirty Sexy Money and Scrubs. Her breakout came in 2012 when she was cast as First Lady Mellie Grant on Scandal, a role she played through the series finale in 2018.

During her run on Scandal, Young won a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She later starred on Prodigal Son and appeared in Promised Land, The Other Black Girl and Brilliant Minds. Her film credits include We Were Soldiers (2002), Mission: Impossible III (2006) and A Wrinkle in Time (2018). The actress has also ventured into music and, in 2015, she released her debut album Far Away So Close, featuring covers of classic songs.

Young was in a relationship with actor Ed Weeks before their split in 2016. She moved on with Pedro Segundo, and the twosome tied the knot in 2020.
