Daniel Day-Lewis is a legendary actor, known for his roles in The Last of Mohicans (1992), There Will Be Blood (2007) and Lincoln (2012).

He studied acting at the Bristol Old Vic School. Day-Lewis and also acted on stage while at Bristol Old Vic and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Over the course of his career, he has received numerous accolades, including three Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Golden Globe Awards.

Day-Lewis made his film debut at age 14 in Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) with an uncredited role. It wasn’t until 1982 that he landed his first role in a major feature film with Gandhi.

He earned his first significant supporting role in The Bounty (1984), and he then appeared in a string of successful flicks, including My Beautiful Laundrette (1985), A Room with a View (1985) and My Left Foot (1989), which earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor.

In the ‘90s, he starred in The Last of the Mohicans, Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence (1993) and In The Name of the Father (1993), for which he received another Academy Award nomination. In 1996, he portrayed John Proctor in Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible. In 2002, he earned another Academy Award nomination for his performance in Gangs of New York.

In 2012, Day-Lewis portrayed Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s film Lincoln, earning him several accolades and making him the first three-time recipient of the Oscar for Best Actor.

After winning the Oscar for Lincoln, Day-Lewis took a break and returned to the big screen in Phantom Thread (2017), which he planned to be his final film before retirement.

After a seven-year hiatus, In October 2024, Day-Lewis came out of retirement to collaborate with his son, Ronan, on the film Anemone, which they co-wrote. The film will be Ronan’s directorial debut.

Day-Lewis dated French actress Isabelle Adjani, with whom he shares a son Gabriel-Kane (born 1995) from 1989 to 1995. The following year, he met Rebecca Miller, daughter of playwright Arthur Miller, while shooting the film adaptation of the writer’s The Crucible.

The couple married in November that year and together, have two sons, Ronan (born 1998) and Cashel (born 2002). The family divides their time between their homes in Manhattan and Annamoe, Ireland.
