Parker Posey

Parker Posey is an Emmy Award-nominated actress best known for her work in independent film and her frequent collaborations with auteur directors. Born in Baltimore and raised in Laurel, Mississippi, Posey developed an interest in performing at a young age, studying ballet before pivoting to acting. After high school, she attended the State University of New York at Purchase, where she studied drama but dropped out just weeks before graduating after landing her first big television role.

In 1991, Posey got her start in Hollywood as Tess Shelby on As the World Turns, transitioning into film roles shortly after. Her breakout came with Dazed and Confused in 1993, followed by starring roles in movies like Party Girl (1995) and The House of Yes (1997). In 2002, she starred in Personal Velocity, sharing the screen with Kyra Sedgwick and Fairuza Balk. Her performance in the drama earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Lead Female, cementing her reputation as a standout in independent cinema and leading to the nickname “Queen of the Indies.”

Over the years, Posey has appeared in a wide range of films including Waiting for Guffman (1996), Best in Show (2000), You’ve Got Mail (1998), Scream 3 (2000), Blade: Trinity (2004) and Superman Returns (2006). She has also worked steadily in television, with her roles on Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The White Lotus earning her an Emmy Award nomination and Golden Globe nomination, respectively.

Posey was in a relationship with Stuart Townsend from 1999 to 2001. She moved on with singer Ryan Adams from 2003 to 2005 and later dated Scott Lenhardt in the late 2010s.
