About

Ryan Adams (born David Ryan Adams) is an American singer songwriter and producer known for his work in alt-country, rock and folk and for his extensive solo catalog. He spent his childhood in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where he left high school before graduating to focus on developing his songwriting while playing in local bands.

Adams first rose to prominence as a founding member of the alt-country band Whiskeytown in the mid-1990s, releasing several albums that earned critical attention. He launched his solo career in 2000 with the album Heartbreaker, followed by Gold in 2001, which featured the single “New York, New York.” His steady output and genre-spanning sound helped establish him as a leading figure in early-2000s Americana and alternative rock.

Some of his later projects include the albums Love Is Hell (2004), Ashes & Fire (2011) and Big Colors (2021). In 2015, he released his fifteenth studio album, 1989, which contained a track-by-track rendition of Taylor Swift’s album of the same name. Throughout his career, Adams has released over 20 studio albums, collaborated with artists across multiple genres and produced records for musicians including Fall Out Boy and Willie Nelson.

Adams married Mandy Moore in 2009, and the two divorced in 2016. In 2019, several women publicly accused Adams of sexual misconduct and emotional abuse. He initially denied the allegations but later issued a public apology.
