Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl is a musician best known for being the frontman of the rock group Foo Fighters. Grohl was born in Warren, Ohio, and later moved to Virginia, where he spent much of his childhood. He began teaching himself to play guitar at age 12 and went on to join a band with friends. He later learned how to play the drums.

In 1986, Grohl joined and toured with rock band Scream before they broke up in 1990. Shortly after, Grohl was introduced to Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, who recruited him to be a drummer for their band Nirvana.

A few years later, the band released their highly acclaimed album Nevermind (1991). With songs like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Come As You Are,” Nevermind catapulted Grohl and the band to superstardom. The group released their follow-up album In Utero (1993) before lead singer Cobain died by suicide in April 1994. Months after Cobain’s death, Grohl founded the band Foo Fighters and served as the group’s lead singer and guitarist.

The group went on to land a record deal shortly after their formation and have had a prolific career in rock, with 15 Grammy Awards to their name. Some of their most popular releases include Foo Fighters (1995) and There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999). Grohl has also collaborated with a number of other acts, including the late David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails.

Grohl was married to his first wife, Jennifer Leigh Youngblood, from 1994 to 1997. He wed his second wife, Jordyn Blum, in 2003. The pair share daughters Violet (born in 2006), Harper (born in 2009) and Ophelia (born in 2014).

In September 2024, Grohl announced he had “become the father of a new baby” born outside of his marriage.
