About

Emilio Estevez is an actor, director and writer best known for his work in The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire and The Mighty Ducks franchise. Emilio is the son of actor Martin Sheen and artist Janet Templeton and the brother of Charlie Sheen, Ramon Estevez and Rene Estevez. He was raised primarily in Malibu, California, and attended Santa Monica High School. After showing an interest in acting as a child and participating in theater productions in high school, he chose to pursue acting full time.

He began appearing in films in the early 1980s and quickly became associated with the Brat Pack generation of young actors. After early roles in films like Tex (1982) and The Outsiders (1983), Emilio rose to prominence with performances in Repo Man (1984) and The Breakfast Club (1985). His work in St. Elmo’s Fire (1985) further cemented his status as a leading young actor throughout the ’80s.

Emilio expanded his career behind the camera, writing and directing films including Wisdom (1986), Men at Work (1990) and Bobby (2006). As an actor, he became widely known to a younger audience for playing coach Gordon Bombay in The Mighty Ducks (1992) and its sequels. His later appearances include The West Wing, Mission: Impossible (1996) and The Way (2010), which he directed and starred in alongside his father. In 2021, he reprised his role as Bombay for Disney’s The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers series.

Emilio was wed to singer Paula Abdul from 1992 to 1994. He shares a son, Taylor, and a daughter, Paloma, with ex-girlfriend Carey Salley.
