About

Tan France (born Tanveer Wasim Safdar) is a clothing designer, television personality and entrepreneur best known as the fashion expert on Netflix’s Queer Eye. France was born in Doncaster, England, and raised in a British Pakistani Muslim family. He developed an interest in fashion at a young age while working in his grandparents’ denim factory and later studied fashion at Doncaster College before moving to London to launch a career in the industry.

Before finding television fame, France built several fashion businesses and worked as a designer. After relocating to the United States, his breakthrough came in 2018 when he joined the reboot of Queer Eye as one of the Fab Five. The series became a global hit and earned multiple Emmy Awards for Outstanding Structured Reality Program, with France also receiving several nominations for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program.

In addition to Queer Eye, France cohosted Next in Fashion alongside Alexa Chung and later Gigi Hadid. He also hosted his own YouTube series, Dressing Funny, from 2019 to 2020.

France released his bestselling memoir, Naturally Tan, in 2019. He also appeared in Taylor Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video and won the The Great British Bake Off Stand Up to Cancer celebrity special in 2020.

France married illustrator and former pediatric nurse Rob France in 2007. The couple welcomed two sons via surrogate: Ismail (born in 2021) and Isaac (born in 2023).
